Things are getting more and more eccentric at Casa de la Swain. Changing styles in my textile work, falling in love again with painting and photography...and then there is the ever illusive quest for continuing creativity through working with Eric Maisel. Still on the road teaching, posting now at the Ragged Cloth Cafe and taking the pledge to keep handmaiden up to date.

Last Quote of the Week

Never fear this is not the last quote in the thread just the last for this week. A full weekend awaits with sewing and shipping dvd's but just had to leave you with one last thought. Hopefully, by the end of the weekend, there will be some more to reveal on the painterly style..but don't hold me to it. It isn't that I am not working hard...there just aren't enough hours in the day....but my goals are still in the works.
The last quote of this week: Create like a god, command like a king, work like a slave. Constantin Brancusi
What more could I add to that....create in the image of your heart, mind and soul; have command over the media you work in and never question your decisions; finally, spend every waking moment you can following the master of your creativity.
All the passion, inspiration, desire and commitment won't get you to where you want to go if you don't trust in your own work. Some of this will be drek (speaking only for myself), but somewhere in the process a miracle will occur......one, two maybe three great pieces. Let's face it no matter how much we love it and learn from it, not every work is something that needs to be shown. These are transition pieces...experimental work that leads to eactly what we had in mind from the beginning. Suddenly style is on the horizon and before you know it, you are following Brancusi....into the unknown but with confidence.
Off to sew so there can be some pictures for next week.....and more quotes to follow. Before I leave, just one more thought, all this talk about art doesn't mean we have to be doing deep meaningful, social, political art...au contraire.....we just have to be making art...finding our voice whether fun, funny, serious or just eye candy (my personal favorite.) All this talk is just to get us thinking about what we are doing, why we are doing it and where we want to go with it.
