Things are getting more and more eccentric at Casa de la Swain. Changing styles in my textile work, falling in love again with painting and photography...and then there is the ever illusive quest for continuing creativity through working with Eric Maisel. Still on the road teaching, posting now at the Ragged Cloth Cafe and taking the pledge to keep handmaiden up to date.

Beach combing

Surf's up As you can see it takes so little to amuse us. But what a gorgeous view. Jane, Louisa Smith, Joan Colvin and I had lunch at Fifi's in Pacific Grove. Next, a short stroll on the beach and finally settling into our classrooms.
Slave driver that I am I have already given my class homework. This is easy stuff but a good place to start. So in the spirit of sharing, here goes. Conceptualization: working with intention. You have to know where you want to go before you can get there. Here is the list of things my class must come in with tomorrow before beginning their projects.
1. Size.....24 x 36, or whatever
2. Format...horizontal, vertical, etc.
3. Approach...blocks, single image, you get the idea
4. Style...abstract, realistic

I also asked them to place on their design wall their name and two words....one that describe where they are now as quiltmakers and the other describing where they want to be. All in all an good start. Let's see what tomorrow brings.Posted by Hello
