Okay call me crazy...not like my life isn't busy enough...but we all know women multi-task well. What is the new leap? I am applying for a booth at fall market to sell the dvd's wholesale to quilt shops etc. This is a major league step for me and going to be tons of work....but just feel I have to put my toes in the water. Don't panic yet....still have to get by the submission committee so it could be there will be no extra work. This week will be spent getting the packet sent to Houston and hoping the acceptance letter arrives in time for me to get everything together for the booth.
What do ya think....is this a crazy idea...do we need the little men in the white coats?
Just when whining about not having enough time in the studio, my production company (read family) thinks that this is the next step to be in on the ground floor of what is definitely the wave of the future. Before everyone and their dog is doing dvd's, get my product out there quickly. Certainly, there are already a number of us (traveling teachers) that are doing dvd's but it is still early in the game. So, before the market is glutted.....off we go to Houston...providing we make it past the submission committee.
Had a great time in Michigan with Pam Holland and Debbie Caffery...and our wonderful hostess, Judy Thornton. There are so many amazing women in the quilt world....ain't it grand that we have a common bond no matter where we are from or how different our lives were before quilting?
Off Monday for a gig in Sacramento...get to have dinner with Velda Newman and Judy Bernard of Art Quilt Tahoe, two of my best girl friends....and then spend the rest of the time with the guild, spreading the word on design and composition. What a great job....no matter how much I may whine about time, I wouldn't trade this job for anything.....getting to do what you love and getting paid for it. Who wouldna thunk?
Got a amazing anket from Deb Lactiva....too beautiful...will post pictures later. Just wanted to check in before starting all the paper work that is stacked on the desk.....more later....let me know what you think of the market idea....and keep on quilting.
Things are getting more and more eccentric at Casa de la Swain. Changing styles in my textile work, falling in love again with painting and photography...and then there is the ever illusive quest for continuing creativity through working with Eric Maisel. Still on the road teaching, posting now at the Ragged Cloth Cafe and taking the pledge to keep handmaiden up to date.

You know - I'm not that far from Sacramento! But it is too hot there - don't think I'll drive over and stalk you!! Say hi to Velda and Judy from me.
I am an experienced booth hawker!!
Honestly, how many people can say that!
I've run booths at county fairs and worked displays at conventions (no, never that model on the turntable act). I know the 3 shoe rule and can swallow mid-chew to grab a potential mark... uhm, customer.
(though I haven't done it decades).
I'm not planning on heading to Houston this year... but if ever decide you need floor help... give a holler.
Gabrielle, of course I know nothing of the business side of what this means, but if it increases your exposure and income...then go for it and be crazy and have fun.
You will be fabu at Market and will sell out, I predict. Great idea!
Hey I want to go to market just to buy your DVD! 3 more years until I can go anywhere, sigh...
it is the next logical step...and maybe your production team can assist and you can turn part of that over to one of the team members...kids can sometimes be great for helping with all the computer stuff! Way to go!
That's a great idea. You'll do well. Make sure you have plenty of promo materials!
